Product Introduction

5–20mm Grey Granite Gravels for Construction Projects building or roads

We recently received an inquiry from a Southeast Asian client for 5–20mm grey granite gravels (crushed stones or called Granite Chips ) with a total demand of  3,000 tons. This project has provided an opportunity to explore the export potential of granite gravels materials that are traditionally supplied to the domestic construction market.

Production Background

Our group has invested in a granite quarry located in Northeast China. The quarry is primarily dedicated to the extraction of granite blocks, with our rich experienced quarry workers managing the quarry mining production process. During block extraction, a considerable volume of irregular stones and smaller materials is generated. These by-products are processed into granite gravels through crushing and screening.

Our crushing facility has a daily production capacity of approximately 10,000 tons, ensuring stable supply for large-scale construction requirements. The 5–20mm size range is commonly used in concrete production, road construction, and general civil engineering applications.

The production process of crushed stones is simply "turning large stones into small ones". Mainly divided into several steps:

Mining stones:
Large stones (excavated from the mountain) are poured into a vibrating feeder and evenly fed into the crusher.

Coarse crushing
Use a jaw crusher to "bite" large stones into medium-sized ones (several tens of centimeters in size).

Medium/Fine Crushing
Then use a cone crusher or impact crusher to further crush it into smaller particles (a few centimeters).

Screening
The crushed mixture is divided into different specifications by size through a vibrating screen. Qualified stones leak through the sieve holes, while oversized stones return to the previous level for re crushing.

There are three sieves, one sieve produces 1-3 centimeters, and the other sieve produces 1-2 centimeters. Then there is another sieve that produces 0.5CM, which is three sieves. Then three conveyor belts come out, which are these three materials.

Finished product
Finally, different particle sizes of crushed stones are obtained, such as 5-10mm, 10-20mm, etc., which can be directly stacked or loaded onto trucks for transportation.

Process Summary : Coarse crushing of large stones → Fine crushing → sieving → stones of different sizes final products.

Application and Quality Requirements

The client's project involves construction related to a plant, where the granite gravels will be used mainly for concrete roads and auxiliary infrastructure. As a result, the client has placed strong emphasis on product quality, including:

  • Particle size distribution (5–20mm)
  • Screening and grading process
  • Material strength and durability
  • Compliance with testing standards

We have provided relevant test reports (MA-certified) to demonstrate the quality and consistency of our materials. Throughout the communication, the client has shown a detailed understanding of technical requirements, particularly regarding screening methods and logistics arrangements.

Market Background

The client previously sourced crushed stones from suppliers in the UAE. However, due to recent disruptions affecting shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, they are now considering alternative supply options from China.

China's abundant mineral resources and large-scale production capacity make it possible to supply such materials. While granite gravels are typically distributed within the domestic market, this project demonstrates that export is feasible under appropriate logistics planning.

Logistics Solutions

1st shipping method: Canvas bag packing via 20GP container by sea, but expensive and time-consuming:

After discussions with our logistics partners, we initially proposed a container-based solution:

  • Packaging in jumbo bags
  • Loading into 20GP  standard containers at the quarry
  • Railway transportation to Dalian Port
  • Ocean shipment to the destination port

CANVAS BAG

2nd shipping method : Loose shipment in open top containers, and the client rents private vessel to pick up, which can save the money and time.

However, due to the relatively low unit value of crushed stones, packaging and handling costs contribute significantly to the overall cost.

The client therefore suggested an alternative solution aimed at reducing costs:

  • Bulk loading without packaging
  • Using open-top containers for direct loading at the quarry
  • Transport to Dalian Port
  • Shipment via a chartered bulk vessel arranged by the client

This bulk logistics approach could offer cost advantages, although it requires careful evaluation in terms of handling efficiency, operational feasibility, and port coordination.

Production ability:

Our daily output is 10000 cubic meters. 10000 cubic meters is equivalent to 15000 tons. If our production capacity is running normally, we can load it all in one day. This is for loose shipment.

Ongoing Communication

As this is our first attempt to export granite gravels on this scale, we are proceeding cautiously and maintaining close communication with both the client and logistics partners. The client's focus on quality and detailed technical discussions indicate a serious and well-defined project.

We will continue to evaluate the most suitable supply and logistics solution, aiming to balance quality assurance with cost efficiency.

This project represents a meaningful step in expanding the application of our granite resources beyond the domestic market, and we look forward to further cooperation.
