How to Process Granite Tiles?

Granite tiles are a popular choice for flooring and other decorative purposes due to their durability, resistance to wear and tear, and aesthetic appeal. Processing granite tiles involves various stages that require precision, expertise, and attention to detail. By carefully following these steps, we can ensure that the granite tiles are of the highest quality, a durable product used for countless applications.
Step 1: Selecting the Good granite Blocks
The first step in the process involves selecting the perfect granite material for the desired tile design. This involves choosing the color, grain, and texture of the granite material. The selected granite block is then cut into manageable-sized slabs.
Step 2: Cutting the granite blocks into slabs
Granite blocks are cut into slabs by using multi-blade diamond saw. This is a crucial stage as the cutting process has to be precise. The cut granite pieces are then polished to make them smooth and shiny.
Step 3: Calibrate the granite slabs
In order to achieve more precise thickness, we usually use calibration machine to uniformly set the thickness of Slabs, to make sure of the consistent thickness.
Step 4: Polishing or flamming the granite slabs
This involves sanding and polishing the slabs to create a smooth and shiny surface. This step is also crucial, as any imperfections on the surface can affect the overall appearance of the tiles. If you need the flamed surface stone tiles, then we will flame the granite slabs.
Step 5: Cutting slabs into tiles
This is mostly done by using infrared ray cutting machines. This is an essential step as the accuracy of the tiles depends on the skill of the workers and the advanced machines.
Step 6: Secondary processing of tiles
Some tiles require small cut edges or shaping according to on-site construction needs, such as bull-nosed edges, straight edges, half bull-nosed edges, back bevel edge, and other secondary processing, etc. We will process the granite tiles as per orders' request.
Step 7: Dry-laying service
Our dry-laying workshop is very large, which many factories do not have. We can conduct preliminary layout based on the construction shop drawings, and check the stone texture direction, and check whether the tile size is accurate, whether the stone surface is OK, and so on. During dry-laying, our QC will check the goods one by one. No defects are allowed on the granite tiles before packing and loading.
Step 8: Packaging and shipping
The final stage of the process involves packaging the granite tiles and preparing them for shipping. The tiles are carefully packed in strong and fumigated crates and put shipping marks for easy identification. The packages are then transported to their final destination, ready for installation.

The Popular Granite Tiles finishes
Polished
The purpose of polishing is to further process the sawn rough slabs to achieve the required thickness, flatness, and glossiness. This process first requires rough grinding and leveling, and then gradually goes through semi fine grinding, fine grinding, and polishing to fully display the color and texture of the granite. The main processing equipment is: automatic multi-head continuous grinding machine, hand grinder. After polishing, the surface can display very smooth and bright textures.
Honed / Matte ( same to Matt )
Matte surface refers to a flat surface that is less polished with resin abrasives or other materials. Its luminosity is lower than that of the polished surface, generally around 30-50 degrees, and 60 degrees. Has a certain level of luminosity, but has weak reflection of light. A board with a flat and smooth surface and low luminosity. Thanks to this smooth texture finish, the surface acquires a matte shine that gives Natural Stone greater character and better reflection of light.
Flamed
Flamed finish refers to the rough surface finish of stone processed by high-temperature flames generated by using petroleum liquefied gas as fuel. Due to the effect of fire, some impurities and low melting point components on the surface of the stone can be burned off, resulting in a rough finish on the surface and a certain prickling sensation when touched by hand. The processing of flamed surfaces has certain requirements for the thickness of stone to prevent breakage during the processing. Generally, a minimum thickness of 1.5cm or more is required. In addition, some materials may change color, for example, G682 will show a certain light red color after burning, instead of the original yellow rust color. They are often used for the ground to prevent slipping. Moreover, these tiles are highly durable and can withstand daily wear and tear, making them ideal for outdoor areas like patios, decks, and pool surrounds where safety is essential.
Bush hammered
Bush-hammered finish ( also named Litchi surface ) is formed by striking a hammer shaped like a lychee peel on the surface of stone, forming a rough surface shaped like a lychee peel on the surface of stone. It is commonly seen on the surface of sculptures or square stones or outdoor floor tiles. It is divided into two types: machine made bush-hammered finish and hand made bush-hammered finish. Generally speaking, hand made bush-hammered finish is finer and denser than machine made bush-hammered one, but they are labor-intensive and time-consuming. Through this finish we obtain a uniform surface with a rough appearance and a rugged touch. Its use is recommended more outdoors due to its resistance.
natural Cleft
Natural cleft surface refers to the processing method of using a hammer to naturally split a piece of stone from the middle, forming a surface that is extremely uneven like natural stones. The natural surface is extremely rough and widely used in products such as cubes or exterior wall or floors.
Flamed and Brushed
In order to eliminate the characteristic of prickling hands on the surface of the flamed surface, the stone is first flamed with fire, and then brushed with a steel brush 1 to 6 times, which is the flamed and brushed finish, also called antique surface. Antique finish has a texture that is both smooth and non irritating to the touch, making them a great surface treatment method. There are many methods for antique finishes, such as water flushing after fire, acid etching, direct steel brushing or high-pressure waterjet, and so on. The processing of antique finish is relatively time-consuming and expensive.
