Terrazzo Stone

Terrazzo is a composite material used for floor and wall treatments, consisting of chips of aggregate (such as marble, quartz, granite, glass) bound together by a binder. It is then ground and polished to a smooth finish. It is primarily categorized into Inorganic Terrazzo and Organic Terrazzo based on the type of binder used.

ZHS10511 Terrazzo Stone

  • Inorganic Terrazzo

Binder: Uses Cement as the binder.

Common Names: Traditional Terrazzo, Cementitious Terrazzo.

Characteristics:

Advantages: Excellent fire resistance, high compressive strength, highly durable and wear-resistant, environmentally friendly and non-toxic, relatively lower cost.

Disadvantages: Prone to cracking (often requires metal dividers to control cracks), very heavy, longer installation cycle (requires extensive curing time), porous surface that must be sealed to prevent staining.

Primary Applications: Large-scale commercial projects like airports, hospitals, schools, and shopping malls where fire ratings are critical.

  • Organic Terrazzo

Binder: Uses organic polymer compounds such as Epoxy Resin or Polyester Resin as the binder.

Common Names: Epoxy Terrazzo, Resin Terrazzo.

Characteristics:

Advantages: High flexibility and resistance to cracking, lightweight, non-porous surface making it highly waterproof and stain-resistant, exceptional chemical resistance, vast range of vibrant colors and design possibilities, faster installation with minimal curing time.

Disadvantages: Poor fire resistance (can burn and emit toxic fumes), less wear-resistant than cementitious terrazzo (but still very durable), higher cost, can yellow or fade under prolonged exposure to UV light.

Primary Applications: High-end residences, retail stores, countertops, wall claddings, and interior projects requiring intricate designs and bold colors.
