Although the production and trade of China's stone industry are relatively scattered, after 30 years of planning and development, more than 20 large-scale stone industry areas have been formed nationwide. The development of stone industry areashas played an important role in the development of the national stone industry. According to estimates from the China Stone Industry Association, the sales revenue of many stone industry areas processing enterprises in China accounts for about 40% of the country's total. If many small and medium-sized enterprises are also included, this proportion will be even larger.
Most of the stone industry areas are pillar industries of the local economy. There are ten stone bases named by the China Stone Industry Association, including:
China's Stone Capital - Laizhou City, Yantai, Shandong
China Stone City - Shuitou Town, Nan'an, Fujian
China Stone Base Center - Yunfu City, Guangdong Province
China's Stone Capital - Pingyi County in Shandong, Pingshan County in Hebei, Shanshan County in Xinjiang, and Shimian County in Ya'an City, Sichuan.
China's Granite Capital - Cenxi City, Guangxi
The Hometown of Marble in China - Tongshan County, Hubei Province
Macheng City, Hubei Province, the hometown of granite in China
Huian, Fujian, known as the World Capital of Stone Carving
China Stone City - Shandong Wulian

The four largest stone industry areas are Laizhou in Shandong, Yunfu in Guangdong, Nan'an in Fujian, and Ya'an in Sichuan, all of which have considerable international influence and are resource dependent and non resource dependent industrial areas.
According to the internal and external conditions of reliance, China's stone industry areascan be divided into resource dependent and market dependent (i.e. non resource dependent) types. Most of the stone industry areas in China are resource-based, with a few being market based. Among them, Laizhou in Shandong is a representative of resource dependent type, while Nan'an in Fujian and Yunfu in Guangdong are representatives of non resource dependent type.
According to the main products produced, China's stone industry areas can be divided into three types: marble and granite decorative stone, stone carving, and slate. Most of the stone industry areasin Shuitou, Laizhou, Yunfu, etc. mainly produce marble and granite decorative stones. Huian and Quyang mainly produce stone carvings, while Yixian and Ziyang mainly produce slate.
