Granite always occupies the "C position" in the decoration of large transportation hubs such as airports and subways. Natural stone, due to its good fire resistance, hardness, wear resistance, and easy maintenance, has a usage rate of over 90%, perfectly adapting to the high material requirements of transportation and construction. Numerous high-quality granite varieties have also become frequent visitors to these places.
The core advantages of granite
The structural properties of granite are magmatic rocks, mainly composed of feldspar, quartz, mica, etc. The structure is dense, hard, wear-resistant, pressure resistant, fire-resistant, and corrosion-resistant. So it meets the environmental scenarios of high pedestrian flow and wear and tear in airports and subways. Therefore, granite is the preferred material for station decoration.
In addition to conventional ground paving, granite can also meet some special functional requirements of transportation spaces, such as:
① Dry hanging on the ground and walls of the entrance and exit passages of the entire public area
② Ground level of concourse and platform
③ Stair steps, treads, and planks
④ Anti dust strip, water blocking platform, wall and column skirting board, insulation area in front of the platform screen door
Granite material selection standards
1. Mainly using locally sourced materials
The construction materials for each city's subway station are based on the principle of localization and convenience, which not only saves transportation costs but also ensures the construction period. The selection of materials for stone veneer should comply with national product standards, and natural stone used in the same project should preferably be selected from the same mineral source and layer of rock.
Stones with the same name may have significant differences in color and pattern, so it is advisable to use a large sample for material selection. In the selection of several types of stone, the key consideration is the technical performance indicators such as surface characteristics, color, and texture of the proposed stone.
2. The thickness of the board is very important
Another key factor in material selection is the thickness of the board. The suggestion given by the expert group of the China Stone Association is to select boards with a thickness greater than or equal to 2.5cm, and not to use boards with a general thickness of 1.5cm, with a thickness deviation of ± 1mm.
The reason is that the 2.5cm board has higher strength and is less prone to deformation; Secondly, in high traffic areas, thicker boards can reduce issues such as breakage and fracture; Also, in the humid environment of subway stations, the thicker the board, the better it can prevent the upward penetration of lesions such as water spots and alkali return.
So, in subway stations, the thickness of the board is required to be at least 2.5 centimeters to meet the usage needs of high traffic public places such as subway station halls.
3. Smooth and anti slip surfaces
The glossiness of the stone surface in subway stations is required to be above 80, and the anti slip level requirements for different ground surfaces are also different.
