Does marble have crystals

Yes, marble is a crystalline rock. It is primarily composed of interlocking crystals of calcite or dolomite minerals.

This crystalline structure is formed through the metamorphic process. When limestone is subjected to intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth's crust, its original fossil fragments and sediments recrystallize. The small particles dissolve and reform as new, larger, and interlocking crystals.

The size of these crystals can vary, influencing the marble's appearance. Generally, longer metamorphism results in larger crystals. This is why some marbles have a fine, sugary texture (small crystals), while others, like Carrara marble, exhibit a more pronounced, sparkling granularity (larger crystals). The way light reflects off the faces of these millions of crystals is what gives polished marble its characteristic luminous shine or vitreous luster.
